We’re excited to welcome a new neighborhood business to Lower Price Hill!
Fūl Café, located at 2115 West 8th Street, will soft open to the public on Tuesday, June 16 at 8:00am.
Owned by Tez Yohannes, the café offers quick lunches, handcrafted coffees, teas, and traditional drinks rooted in East African and Mediterranean food traditions. The signature Fūl Fava Platter features seasoned fava beans served with warm pita and a choice of toppings. Guests can also experience coffee brewed in a traditional jebena and prepared fresh with ginger.
More than a place to grab lunch or coffee, Fūl Café is designed as a welcoming neighborhood space where residents and visitors can gather, connect, and experience a range of cultural traditions.
“Opening Fūl Café is about providing quick and convenient lunches, coffees and teas with a splash of African flavor,” Tez said. “I want this to be a place where people from across the city can experience something new.”
Growing Locally-Owned Businesses
Fūl Café represents an important step in the continued growth of Lower Price Hill’s locally-owned business district. For the past three years, Community Matters has partnered with Tez to provide technical assistance and support key aspects of the café’s build-out and equipment purchases.
The café is located within Lower Price Hill Thrives, a 2022 mixed-use development designed to expand both affordable housing and commercial opportunities in the neighborhood. The development is owned and operated by Over-the-Rhine Community Housing, with Community Matters leading resident support services and storefront activations.
“Fūl Café is a strong example of what can happen when local entrepreneurs have access to the resources and support they need to bring their ideas to life,” said Mary Delaney, Executive Director of Community Matters. “Investments like this contribute to a more vibrant community-led commercial corridor and strengthen the social infrastructure of the neighborhood.”
