Washing Well

Visit the Washing Well

Almost a decade ago, the last remaining laundromat in Lower Price Hill closed, leaving residents with no option for cleaning their clothes close to their homes. The Washing Well is a community laundromat located in Lower Price Hill that offers access to safe, affordable, and local laundry. The laundromat is owned and managed by Community Matters, a nonprofit organization, with daily operations led by two dedicated Lower Price Hill neighbors.

What to Expect

Amenities
The Washing Well offers a variety of front-load Huebsch washers (25lbs.-60lbs.) and dryers (30lbs.-45lbs.) to meet your needs. The Washing Well is fully attended during our open hours so a friendly face is always there to answer your questions, provide assistance, and keep the laundromat tidy. We also have plenty of free street parking nearby, large, sturdy folding tables, rolling laundry carts, single-use laundry detergents for sale, and a TV area.

Payment Methods
Machines at the Washing Well operate on the FasCard laundry card system instead of with coins. We encourage customers to purchase a reusable laundry card from an attendant and then load it at the central kiosk. Laundry cards can be loaded using cash or a credit/debit card. You can also start washers and dryers directly using a credit/debit card.

Laundry cards can be linked to the FasCard app, available on both iPhone and Android, or by visiting m.fascard.com. From anywhere, this resource allows customers to view their laundry card balance, see if machines are available, and get alerts when their machine is done.

Single-use laundry care products, bags, and other items can be purchased from an attendant using cash or a credit/debit card.

Estimated Costs
The Washing Well maintains pricing at 25-50% less than conventional laundromats. Using our laundry card system, we are also able to offer discounts and other incentives for returning customers. For every $20 you spend, we will load $1 back to your laundry card!

Frequently Asked Questions

Are you open on holidays?

We are open on most major holidays. However, when they fall during our normal open hours, we will close on New Year’s Day, Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day to ensure our attendants can spend time with their families.

When is the best time to come?

If you are in a time crunch, we recommend you come do laundry on a Monday or Friday to avoid peak crowds.

How long will it take to do my laundry?

Our washers take approximately 25-30 minutes, and dryers take about 20-25 minutes. From start to finish, it usually takes our customers about an hour to finish their laundry.

Can I leave and come back to pick up my clothes?

As a general rule, we do not recommend this. While our laundromat is fully attended, our attendants are not consistently available to keep an eye on your clothes, and we are not responsible for lost or stolen laundry. If you must leave, please set a timer on your watch or phone to ensure you return in a timely manner. If you do not return in a timely manner and other customers are waiting, our attendants may remove your laundry from the machines and set it aside in our office until you return.

How full do I fill the washers?

Our commercial front-load washers should only be filled to about 3/4 full.  Overloaded washers will result in clothing that is less clean and can even result in damage to your clothing or our machines. Our attendants may ask you to remove some clothing to prevent these issues.

Why don’t I see a lot of water in the washers?

Our commercial front-load washers are environmentally friendly and use less water than most home machines. Machines pump just a few inches of water in at a time, so you may not be able to see the water through the door. These machines then use gravity to tumble clothes through this small amount of water.

Can I use powdered detergent, detergent pods, detergent sheets, or scent-boosting beads in your washers?

Yes. However, please make sure to place all of these items inside the washer drum itself before you load your laundry. Only liquid detergent, bleach, or fabric softeners should be placed in the dispenser drawer. Otherwise, there will be clogs in the dispenser drawer and your clothes will not be fully clean. Our attendants will remind customers about detergent use in order to prevent flooding and machine damage.

How much laundry detergent should I use?

Our high-efficiency machines recommend approximately 1 ounce of detergent for every 10# load of laundry. This equals about 1/4 cup in our 25# machines up to 2/3 cup in our 60# machines. If you notice crunchy, soapy residue on your laundry after it is washed, you have used too much detergent. Our attendants will ask customers to use less detergent in order to prevent residue left behind for future customers and machine damage.

Why is there a $10 charge on my credit/debit card?

Our card processor requires a $10 “temporary” or pre-authorization hold on your account every two hours. These typically disappear within 1-3 days, and you will only be charged the total amount you spent at the laundromat. If you have questions about a card hold, please contact your bank or credit card company directly.

Do you have a lost and found?

Yes. Clothing or other items found at our laundromats are saved for one week. These items are stored in the office and may be retrieved by inquiring with an attendant.

Who do I contact with other questions?

For questions not answered here that are otherwise unable to be resolved by one of our attendants, you can reach Patty Lee at (513) 244-2214 ext. 211.
